FOUNDER THANKED
A night shelter which started off with three beds, then spread into the passage, then took over the house next door, has now provision for 10 persons and can accommodate more persons on couches and on mattresses if the need arises, said the man who founded the Anglican City Mission night shelter in Christchurch (Mr A. Menneer) at a function last evening, Mr Menneer has been supervisor of the shelter since it was opened three years and three months ago. Mr Menneer and his wife have shifted their home and Mr Menneer will be field officer for the City Mission. The new supervisors for the night shelter are Mr A. Marcon and Mrs Marcon, of Halswell. At his farewell last evening Mr Menneer said that there was a need to increase the size of the night shelter and to add a hostel for those men who could work but needed accommodation. "There is a need for an effort by the combined churches,” he said.
Mr Menneer and Mrs Menneer wer thanked by the Bishop of Christchurch (The Rt. Rev. W. A. Pyatt) for the service they had given.
