Chairman to retire
(N.Z. Preu Association) AUCKLAND, Sept 7. The chairman of the Auckland Harbour Bridge Authority (Sir John Allum) announced today that he intends to retire as chairman—after holding the post since its formation 20 years ago. Sir John Allum, who is relinquishing the ehairrnanship because of ill health, still intends to remain a member of the board. He was one of the first members appointed to the Authority by the Government in 1951. At the time, he was serving his fourth term as Mayor of Auckland. At 82, Sir John Allum has completed almost 51 years service in local government in Auckland.
