INCREASE IN BUILDING

There was a substantial rise in both the number and the value of building permits issued by the Christchurch City Council in August, compared with the same month last year. Last month the council issued 333 permits, worth $1,964,120; in August, 1970, it issued 255 permits, worth $999,223. In the first five months of this financial year the council has - issued 1677 permits, worth $8,239,056, compared with 1550 permits, worth $10,187,501, in the same period of the 1970-71 year.
