Conductor leaving

(N.Z. Pres* Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 3. A shortage of work in Auckland and an attractive offer from London are the reasons why the orchestra conductor, Ulric Burstein, will leave New Zealand tomorrow night for a position as musical director of the newly-formed South Bank Opera Company in London. Mr Burstein said tonight he would have liked to stay in New Zealand if he had been given enough work to live on. "During my six months in New Zealand, I did only three recording sessions with the NXB.C.,” he said. Mr Burstein said he thought one of the major problems in New Zealand arts was that administrations spent too much money bringing overseas artists to New Zealand, who were often inferior to local talent.
