New Games chairman
The appointment of two new committee chairmen was recommended at the weekly meeting yesterday of the Commonwealth Games organising committee’s executive. The recommendations will go before the next full meeting of the committee for approval. Mr R. J. Stewart, the managing-director of Skope Industries, Ltd, one of the P.D.L. group, has been recommended to chair the design committee, which until now has been under the direction of the organising committee’s chairman (Mr R. S. Scott).
The second recommended appointment is that of Mr W. B. Barnes, the managing director of Andrews and Beaven, Ltd, to fill the gap left by the recent resignation of the communications chairman (Mr H. W. Wilkinson). To meet requirements laid down by the Post Office the communications committee is being reorganised. If appointed, Mr Barnes will resign from his position on the finance committee and also as chairman of the gifts committee for the Canterbury Games appeal.
