Airport tax objection

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 1. The Civil Aviation Amendment Bill was objectionable on all principles of taxation, the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk) said in Parliament today. The bill, which was receiving its second reading debate, makes provision for the Government to impose its recently-announced $2 airport international-departure tax. Opposition speakers have stated that the operative clause of the bill does not restrict the levy to external passengers. Mr Kirk said the bill was because it did I not prescribe a maximum er a minimum level, and it did not prescribe who were the people who would pay. This , could be done by the Minister by Order-in-Council.
