RANGIORA POOL
Heating plan advances The use of underground water for heating the Dudley Park swimming pool at Rangiora— suggested as the training centre for Commonwealth Games competitors—was approved by the North Canterbury Catchment Board yesterday. An application by the Rangiora Borough Council was approved for the taking of 240,000 gallons of water a day from a well 9ft to 20ft deep between Labour Day week-end and April 30 each year. The water, the board was told, would pass through a heat exchanger and discharge back underground. In granting the right for a term of five years, the board required the council to install monitoring equipment and fixed safeguards on temperature and quality. Irrigation.— The Department of Scientific and Industrial Resoearch was granted a right to take 720,000 gallons of water a day for irrigation at the Crop Research Division, Lincoln. The water will be drawn from a well 156 ft deep.
