FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A disturbed west to southwesterly airstream prevails over New Zealand and most of the Tasman Sea. Forecast: Kaikoura coast and Canterbury.—Moderate winds from between west and south-west predominating; partly cloudy and rather cold most of the time, but scattered snow showers likely about the far western high country and south-westerlies may freshen at times about exposed eastern coasts, bringing some showers. Central Marlborough, the Sounds and Nelson.—Fresh to strong gusty westerly winds. Showers persisting about the western ranges of Nelson; elsewhere mostly fair, but there might be a few isolated brief showers. Mild during the day, but cold at night. Buller and Westland.—Moderate to frekh south-west winds, occasionally strong in exposed places. Weather remaining cold and showery with snow on the ranges to 2000 ft.
