Revival of idea suggested (N.Z. Press Association? HAMILTON, Aug. 31. The cancellation of the French nuclear tests in the Pacific meant it was time for the revival of the concept of a nuclear-free Southern Hemisphere, the secretary of the New Zealand Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament’s Hamilton branch (Dr R. H. Locker) said yesterday. The idea, from the Australian Labour Party, had gained a large following in New Zealand in 1961, said Dr Locker. A petition to make the Southern Hemisphere a nuclear-free zone was the third largest in New Zealand’s history, but the Government had taken no action at that time.

“This could be an extremely good time to revive the campaign,” he said.
