N.Z. CYCLIST LYING 2nd

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copgripht) LAUNCESTON (Tasmania). The Wellington cyclist, R. Davies, held second place at the end of the first day of the 650-mile “Examiner” tour of the north of Tasmania yesterday. J. Trevorrow (Victoria) led the small field of 27 cyclists at the end of the 107-mile stage from Launceston to Wynyard on the north-west coast of Tasmania. Other Victorian riders hold third, fourth and fifth positions. The surprise of the day was the South Island 100mile champion, R. Bush, who has lost all chance of a showing after dropping right out of today’s race. K. Collins, of Wellington was eighth. Ten entrants withdrew before the classic began in Launceston, leaving the field at 27, one of the smallest ever.
