Completion of deal in sight

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Aug. 31. The end of a drawn-out take-over bid by Thomas Nationwide Transport of Australia for the Union Steam Ship Company appeared in sight today. The managing-director of T.N.T. (Mr E. H. P. Abeles) will fly to New Zealand tomorrow for a meeting on Thursday at which he will try to complete the deal. Representatives of companies who have been involved in the New Zealand end of the deal will hear Government proposals to help them find the necessary 50 per cent of the equity, about s6m. “We’ve had a lot of bridges to cross but we’re close to the other side,” Mr Horrocks said today.
