M.P.’s idea rejected
(N.Z. Press Association) ] AUCKLAND, Aug. 6. A suggestion by Mr L. F.! Sloane (Nat., Hobson) that ’ two single male teachers be allowed to live in a female, teachers’ hostel in order to stop prowlers, was received with surprise by Auckland Education Board members. The hostel, in Kaitaia, serves schools in the area. “This is just a naive suggestion by the local M.P.,” said Mr H. C. Mabbett, who was then reminded that the board was not in committee. “Mr Sloane is well known for his tongue-in-cheek remarks,” replied Mr Mabbett. "Anyway, M.P.S don’t mind what you say about them, as long as you say something." file subject arose after a report of prowlers round the hosteLThe board Was told that Mr Sloane had asked the Minister of Education (Mr Taiboys) whether the solution Would be to allow two single male teachers to live in the hostel. The board will tell the Education Department that it does not agree with Mr Sloane’s suggestion.
