Passenger impaled
(N.Z. Press Association) NAPIER, August 6. A man who . was impaled through the midriff on , a - length of half-inch galvanised pipe in an accident, at Bay view, five miles north of Napier, at 1.30 p.m. yesterday, today was reported to be in a satisfactory condition in the Napier Hospital. He is Graham McNeil, of Thompson Road, Napier. Mr McNeil was a passen- ’ ger in a station-waggon involved in a nose-to-tml collision. 1 Six eight-foot lengths of pipe were being carried in the j vehicle. The force of the im--1 pact drove one of the pipes 1 through the front seat and • through Mr McNeil’s body. 1 As the pipe went through 1 the seat it forced the seat springs into his body also. ‘These had to be cut away 1 before he could be taken from ' the car. The driver of the other vei hide, Sam Henry, of Napier, i and his passenger, Dave Hiha i also of Napier, were taken to
hospital. Mr Hiha was treated and discharged. Mr Henry was in a satisfactoiy condition today. He suffered chest injuries.
