Shipping dispute
Sir, —Another conflictcreating technique of the irrational human mind is that of putting people into pigeonholes, usually on two sides of an imaginary war. So Mr Lilburn now sees me as a “sniper of the Right.” In his downwards path towards this false classification he has performed some remarkable mental gyrations. Thus his reply to my first letter was inappropriate because he failed to notice that in it 1 criticised Communists and Americans equally for inadequate restraint of innate human ferocity. I think I am as concerned as Mr Lilburn to bring about a more ideal form of society. But since I don’t think an ideal society lies in the orthodox socialist direction, I also want to break down the dogmatic assumption of people like Mr Lilburn that they know what a more ideal society would be like and that, therefore, no further thought, only political action, is needed.— Yours, etc, MARK D. SADLER.
