STEADIER TONE ON N.Z. MARKET IN MORE ACTIVE TRADING
The New Zealand sharemarket steadied in active trading yesterday. The leaders were evenly divided in the price changes, and although there were more falls than rises among the second-line stock the rises were generally larger than the falls.
The overseas list showed some sharp losses: C.S.R. lost 32c at 520 c, Comalco . new dropped 20c to 360 c, and Lloyd’s Bank was traded 65c lower at 1250 c.
Significant movements by local companies included 5c rises by Mt Cook, A.G.S., and Clyde (ex a 5c dividend). Dominion Farmers Institute A and B shares recorded good gains ex 2.4 c and 4c dividends respectively. The retailers appeared firm. Beaths and F.T.C. were 2c higher. Wright Stephenson made a
good recovery with a 7c rise to 117 c.
Among the falls Minvest stood out with a fall of 4c to 29c. Six months ago the company published its interim report so the accounts for the year are due soon.
