Maori League officers

(N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. July 23. Mrs H. Potaka, of Makatu, near Tauranga. was elected national president of the Maori Women’s Welfare League, which held its annual conference in New Plymouth this week. Mrs Potaka is a member of the Maketu Maori Committee, and was a league representative on the Maori Education Foundation Board for one year.

She has held many positions in the community at Makatu, and has worked with Aboriginal family education centres in New South Wales, South Australia, and Western Australia.

Mrs M. Szaszy, of Te Ao Hou, Auckland, was elected first vice-president. Mrs M. Penfold, of Arahina, Auckland, became second vicepresident. Area representatives confirmed were: Mesdames S. H. Vuibau (Auckland), M. Copeland (Wairakai), H. Weka (Tairawhiti), 1. Te L'ira (Ikaroa), R. Howe (Tainui), E. Grooby (Te Wai Pounamu), L. Puohotaua (Aotea).
