Sir Cullus is cup pick
"The Press” Special Service
AUCKLAND. Sandwiched between the jackpot meetings of Te Rapa last Wednesday and Te Awamutu next Saturday week, and with the Lions’ Rugby match in Auckland as a coun-ter-attraction, the Ohinemuri Jockey Club will be doing very well indeed if it does better than break even on its meeting at Paeroa tomorrow. The biggest attraction offered betters at Paeroa is a jackpot on races five, seven, eight and nine. There will be two on-course concession doubles as well, besides the usual T.A.B. double. The Paeroa jackpot will have a much more modest
pool than the one competed for at Te Rapa and due to be carried forward to the Taumarunui meeting, but it is bound to be pretty popular. The four winners requirement is more sensible than six, and there is something to be said for a jackpot which must ■ terminate, as does the Paqjpa one. Two of the four jackpot races will be the Poland Cup and the Flying Handicap which will be the T.A.B. concession double races as well. The fields for both the Poland Cup and the Flying Handicap are of moderate quality, The Poland Cup, of $2550, 11 furlongs, looks between Sir Cullus, Kind Regards, and Tetrarch’s Gift. In the Flying Handicap Mr Hing, Friday Affair, and Apollo Eleven should be the hardest to beat.
