TEACHERS’ BACK PAY

(N.Z. Press Association;

WELLINGTON, July 21. The Education Department hopes that as many secondary schoolteachers as possible will be paid salary arrears owed to them from February 1 before the start of next month’s school holidays. An article in the latest issue of the “Education Gazette” says progress with the new salary scales is well advanced.

“Those that are completed in time will be paid on August 4. and the balance on August 18. “Because of the magnitude of the task, these dates cinnot be regarded as being definite, but every effort is being made—and will continue to be made—to achieve them,” it says.
