SEEDED SNOOKER PLAYERS OUT
Only one of the four seeded players, the No. 1 and defending title-holder, B. Kirkness, has qualified for the semi-finals of the Canterbury snooker championships.
The second seed and former New Zealand champion, R. Franks, was beaten in the second round on Monday by I. Shrimpton, who last year won the Canterbury junior title, and in the third round on Tuesday the fourth seed, C. Kelly, lost to D. Buckley. The No. 3 seed, L. Rolleston, was eliminated in the first round the previous week.
In the semi-finals next Monday, Kirkness will play D. Meredith, who came from two frames down to beat a former champion, G. Logan, in the third round, and Buckley will meet the experienced A. Dryden. The final will be played the following night.
Results were:— Second round.—Kirkness 3, J. Linton. 0: T, Kahl 3, H. McMillan 2; Meredith 3, W. Dllks 0; Logan 3. E. Grimes I; KeUy 3, B. Mlln 2; Buckley 3, W. Adams 2; Dryden 3, D.- Henderson 2; Shrimpton 3. R. Franks 2.

Hockey.—Two present internationals, K. Thomson and J. H. Christensen, and one past representative, M. McKinnon, are included tn a Canterbury Hockey Supporters* Club team to play Shirley Boys* High School this afternoon. The side is: P. Clark (captain), Christensen, Thomson, C, Fowles, G. Long, McKinnon, J. Bate, M. Abrams, R. Van Ysselsteyn, H. Hopkins, G. Baldwin.
