THEFTS ON SUNDAY

About $9OO worth of watches, clocks and cufflinks was stolen from The Continental Watchmaker, High Street, Rangiora, when the show window was broken about 11 p.m. on Sunday. The burglary was observed by two Christchurch youths returning from the Ashley Forestry Camp; they heard the sound of breaking glass and saw a car, with the registration plates covered, making off at high speed. Only expensive items such as marcasite watches and cufflinks were stolen, according to the owner of the shop (Mr P. Stanicich). Thieves broke into the Woodend Beach Store and stole quantities of cigarettes, confectionary and other goods on Sunday evening, value not detailed.
