Visit to Peking
Sir, —It is reported that! Japan is unhappy about President Nixon’s forthcoming visit to China. It looks as if Japan’s prewar policy of the “Co-Prosperity Sphere” in Asia is being revived. China suffered many grievous wrongs from this outlook. Now the Japanese are making themselves interested in South Korea, much to the disgust of the North Koreans and the Chinese who defeated the Americans in that war. Militarism is being revived in Japan, and Australia and New Zealand are wide open to attack. Cfiina delayed the southward expansion of the Japanese forces by keeping an army of one and one half million men engaged during the last war. Will she help again if Japan goes south?— Yours, etc., P J.A. July 19, 1971.
Sir, —In all the kerfuffle about President Nixon’s visit to Peking one important point seems to have been overlooked: can the President play ping pong?—Yours, etc., SCEPTICAL SAM. July 19, 1971.
