Beer rise may be sought

W.Z. Preu Association) AUCKLAND, July 16. Dominion Breweries, Ltd, may soon file an application for a general increase in beer prices. The group’s managing director (Sir Henry Kelliher) said in his annual report that this would be necessary “in the not too distant future.” The company sought a return of 12} per cent on total funds employed, which was most necessary to support an adequate rate of growth, he said. However, this was not achieved in the year ended March 31 because of spiralling costs and other special circumstances. Dominion Breweries increased its profit 23.5 per cent to $2,806,751 in its latest year, representing a return of 10.2 per cent on much higher average shareholders’ funds.
