Control of detergents

WELLINGTON, July 15. The Water Pollution Control Council is considering recommending to the Government the introduction of controls on the use of "hard” detergents. The annual report of the National Water and Soil Conservation Authority, tabled in Parliament today, laid . the council was concerned about the increasing use in New Zealand of non-biodegradable or "hard” detergents. The report said the council was also concerned about the discharge of raw sewage from vessels in New Zealand waters, and that shipping companies had been advised of the council’s concern at this continuing practice.
