Two Auckland breweries shut

(New Zealand Preet Association)

AUCKLAND, July 15. Two Auckland breweries closed

today and more than 400 brewery

workers found themselves out of work. Hotels from the far north to the centre of the North Island are now watching their last stocks dwindle with little hope of early renewal.

In Auckland draught beer is becoming more and more scarce and bottle supplies have reached a low level. Only hotels with supplies from the unaffected Leopard brewery at Hastings and from the Waikato breweries can look forward to refills. At Dominion Breweries six men at the heart of the rolling strike at the plant affirmed their intention to continue their stand, and were suspended. More than 200 men walked out in support of them.

At New Zealand Breweries, drivers and engine-room staff continued their refusal to work as part of the rolling strike at the brewery, and the management told the other workers—more than 200—that there was no work for them. SKELETON STAFFS Skeleton staffs now patrol the two breweries; all work other than caring for alreadybrewed beer has been stopped. The management of the breweries repeated their 9.5 per cent pay offer. The. men will meet tomorrow to discuss their stand.
