Unimpressive submission

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) HOUSTON, July 15. Emmanuel Ilkenhans, aged 80 an ice-cream van driver, told a judge when he appeared before him on a speeding summons <in Houston, Texas: ”1 was running to get away from the polluted air.” Ilkenhans explained that on the previous day he had "caught a lungful of sulphuric acid fumes, or something” as he drove near the Houston shipping channel, said to be one of America’s most polluted waterways. “So when I came to that area again,” he said, “I just took a deep breath and tried to get out as fast as I could. That stuff is injurious—it ruins your lungs. “What’s more I was hurrying to get to a prayer meeting.” The judge was unimpressed and fined him $l5.
