WOOL MAY HOLD

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 22. The slightly higher prices for crossbred wools were generally expected to hold for next season, the manager of the Wool Commission (Mr H. L. M. Peirse) said today on his return from overseas.

Mr Peirse attended the annual conference of the International Wool Textile Organisation, and talks in Europe and the United States.

“There is a relatively strong demand at around today’s figures both for apparel and carpet use,” he said.

He found Bradford “pretty despondent”. Everywhere he heard of retrenchment, amalgamations and other measures to keep going as profitably as possible. “The Soviet bloc looks as if it will hold or even increase its purchases," said Mr Peirse. “In summary, demand at the strong end of the dip could be a bit healthier next season.”
