Britain and E.E.C.
Sir,—May I question your use of the word “Fate” in your front-page headline this morning—" Decision on New Zealand's fate.” Fate implies some unalterable (and usually unpleasant) destiny. You probably meant New Zealand’s future. Here again I would be at odds with you. Our future fate or whatever, is not necessarily. decided in Luxemburg, London, Washington, or Timbuctoo. It should be decided here, in these islands, by ourselves. I suppose no country or people in this troubled and fast-chang-ing world has a fairer prospect of survival and happiness if we will but grasp our opportunities and keep our values right—Yours, etc, R.R.B.
