Black taxis

Sir,—lt was with complete surprise that I read that Blue Star are contemplating abandoning their black cars. Blue Star has always been to me a prestige name, the standard and appearance of their cars comparing more than favourably with any others in New Zealand. Presuming costs the reason I would imagine that, calculated against total cab mileage, this would be a very small percentage of a cent a mile. Any action which lowers the standards of any industry in this country is to be deplored; when that industry is a service one which is vitally concerned with our ever-growing tourist industry it is to be even more deplored.—Yours, etc., UNIFORMITY. June 19, 1971. __
