Oils continue to rise; other sections firm
The oil section continued to rise on an otherwise steady market in Australia yesterday. Trading was brisk, and volume reached higher levels than on recent days.
Woodside was very strong, and climbed 8c to close at a new high for the year of 95c, after trading at 98c. The 30c paid shares rose 6c to 7ic. .' Beach was strong with 12c rise to 51c, and Ampol Ex firmed 5c to 110 c.
A.0.G., Bridge Oil, Mid East, and N.S.W. Oil and Gas, were also firmer.
In the mining section C.R.A. eased 16c to 880 c, and New B.H. fell 5c to 1220 c. M.I.M. eased 5c to 348 c but Con Gold rose 20c to 770 c. Hammersley firmed 3c to 425 c.
W.M.C. lost 3c to 405 c, Poseidon eased 50c to 3050 c, and Queensland Mines was 150 c lower at 1700 c. Utah firmed 15c to 440 c, and Metals Ex gained 20c to 540 c. Peko rose 10c to 1010 c. Among the speculatives, the trend was slightly firmer. Spargo’s firmed 15c to 190 c, but Whim Creek was 120 c lower at 410 c.
Carr Boyd was 7c higher at 60c, and Jensen put on 8c to 30c. Norseman rose 7c to 85c. Industrials were generally steady. B.H.P. stood out With a 30c drop to 1390 c. C.S.R.
eased 6c to 558 c, and Corio firmed 10c to 60c.
Comalco, Myer and E.Z.L were marginally higher.
