ASCOT (England). Philip of Spain won the New Stakes for two-year-olds, run over live furlongs, at Ascot on Thursday. Flrefrlght was second and Deep Diver, the favourite, third of five runners. G. Lewis rode Philip of Spain, J. Gorton was on Flrefright. and L. Piggott rode Deep Diver. Philip of Spain won by seven lengths. The race, worth £4730 ($10,133) to the winner. Rock Rol, the 2-1 favourite, was a decisive four length winner of the Gold Cup. Victory in this top stayers* race was worth £12,429 ($26,635). Last time out, the Berkshiretrained four-year-old finished second In the Prix du Cadran, the French equivalent of the Gold Cup. Rock Rol burst into tbe lead turning Into tiw straight and ran on strongly to win by four lengths from 11-1 chance. Random Shot.
