(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) LONDON. M. C. Cowdrey, dropped for the second test match against Pakistan, hit a fine 83 for the county champions, Kent, against Hampshire at Southampton. Cowdrey shared a century fourth-wicket stand with the West Indian all-rounder, J. Shepherd, to put Kent on the road to a first-innings lead. Kent were 190 for four in reply to Hampshire’s 209. The result of another match was:— At Oxford: Northamptonshire beat Oxford University by an innings and 110 runs. Northamptonshire 317/6 declared (P. Willey 158 not out), Oxford University 76 (A. Hodgson 3/22, D. Breakwell 3/24, D. Steele 3/19) and 131 (D. Steele 6/53. R. Johns 3/20).
