New branch secretary

Miss E. Chambers was elected secretary of the Christchurch branch of the

National Council of Women at the monthly meeting recently.

A delegate of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Federation of University Women, Miss Chambers has a master’s degree in home science from the University of Otago. At the end of 1965 she retired from secondary school teaching. For 28 years she taught at Hagley High School, then Christchurch West High School Miss Chambers succeeds Miss P. H. Ryan, the assistant matron of the Christchurch Women’s Hospital, who has been appointed mat-ron-in-chief of the Hawke's Bay Hospital Board. Tributes were paid to Miss Ryan at the meeting, and she received a presentation from the council. Other officer* elected at the meeting were: Vice-presidents, Mrs C. Crawford, Dr M. Smith; I registrar, Miss S. Lilly; sub-com-mittee conveners, Mrs L. Brown (arts and letters), Mrs M. Snowdon (education). Dr M. Smith (health), Mrs F. Cameron (justice), Mrs C. Crawford (Physical environment), Mrs M. Connelly (social welfare). Miss M. Pollack (status of Women).
