MELANESIAN APPEAL
Contribution
by Chch
The Anglican Diocese of Christchurch will contribute $1075 to the Diocese of Melanesia.
The money will buy 800 stack-away chairs and a longcarriage typewriter. The contribution is being made as part of a New Zealand appeal launched by the Anglican Board of Missions for $6BOO to mark the centenary of the martyrdom of the first Bishop of Melanesia (the Rt Rev. J. C. Patteson) in September. The present Bishop of Melanesia (the Rt Rev. J. W. Chisholm) has asked that the gift money be used for “bread and butter” items.
Christchurch and one other New Zealand diocese will make the project a Sunday school effort. Each Sunday school will be expected to raise $lO each over the months of June and July. The gifts will be presented at a special children's service to be held in Christchurch Cathedral on August 1 at which the Bishop of Melanesia will be present
