ROBBERY CHARGE
Three men guilty After a retirement of an hour and 50 minutes a jury in the Supreme Court yesterday afternoon found three men guilty on a charge of robbery. The accused, Stephen Michael Postlethwaite, aged 20, unemployed (Mr R. L. Kerr), Alfred John Oldham, aged 23, a coke bagger (Mr J. E. Butler), and Benjamin Te Whare Waikato, aged 34, unemployed (Mr A. K. Grant), had pleaded not guilty to a charge of robbing David Tomkins on March 24. The jury recommended leniency for Postlethwaite. Mr Justice Wilson remanded the accused in custody to June 23 for sentence. Evidence was given during the trial, which began on Tuesday, that the complainant was knocked down on the bank of the Avon River near the Bridge of Remembrance and a pay packet containing $26 was taken from his pocket
