Choice of referee

The choice of a referee for the first test is likely to be made by the Lions this weekend, according to Earle Read, of the New Zealand Press Association staff.

The Lions manager (Dr D. W. C. Smith) says the choice will be made from a panel of four, which is expected to be submitted to the tourists by New Zealand officials after the match against Canterbury on Saturday. Dr Smith says the Lions’ choice will be made known to the New Zealand Rugby Union either on Monday or Tuesday.
