Fewer Aust, union members
CN.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) SYDNEY, June 9.
Only half of Australia’s wage and salary-earners are union members, according to figures released by the Bureau of Census and Statistics.
The figure of 50 per cent in 1970 compares with 53 per cent in 1966, and is equal to that in 1969. The decrease in union membership in recent years is blamed on increasing numbers of white-collar workers who are difficult to organise.
