Citizens' candidates for October

Sitting Citizens’ Association members of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, the North Canterbury Hospital Board and the North Canterbury Catchment Board have all been nominated for re-election at the local body elections on October ,9.

The candidates for the three boards were announced by the chairman of the general committee of the Citizens’ and Ratepayers’ Association (Mr H. P. Smith) yesterday. For the city area of the Harbour Board Messrs F. I Sutton, the present chairman of the board, F. G. K. Gilchrist, N. W. Whyte and Captain A. R. Champion have been renominated A new candidate is Mr A. G. Williams, managing-direc-tor of the transport business of C. Williams and Sons, Ltd, and a director of several other companies in the transport industry. Mr L. G. Amos, the sitting member and a former chairman, has been nominated for the combined Riccarton-Wai-mairi area.

For the city area of the North Canterbury Hospital Board the following are the candidates: Drs L. C. L. Averill (at present chairman) and L. A. Bennett, Mrs A. L. M. Mac Gibbon, Miss B. Webb, and Mr J. H. Pickles, all of whom are sitting members.

The two new candidates are Mr D. H. Lawrence, the senior partner in a firm of chartered accountants and chairman of the Christchurch sub-centre of the St John Ambulance Association, and Mr I. G. B. Wilson, a con-

suiting engineer and member of the Christchurch Drainage Board.

The sitting Waimairi members, Dr D. Macmillan and Mr C. F. Whitty, have been nominated again. For the Paparua-Riccarton seat the association has nominated Mr K. H. Readman, retired District Public Trustee in Christchurch and vicepresident and chairman of the finance committee of St George’s Hospital. The sitting city members of the Catchment Board, Dr W. R. Holmes, and Messrs D. B. Dallas and R. F. Stead, have been nominated. For the combined Paparua-Wai-mairi area a new candidate is Mr T. Double, -who has served as a member and chairman of the Southland Catchment Board.
