Enrolments for high school
Christchurch secondary-school enrolments should be made during June. Enrolment forms and prospectuses will be available in the first week from secondary principals, neighbourhood primary schools, and the office of the Christchurch Secondary Schools’ Council, 115 Cashel Street.
Enrolments will close at all schools on July 1.
The district senior inspector of secondary schools (Mr R. U. Roy) says that the Secondary Schools’ Council has recommended that all schools define a neighbourhood area and accept all applications from that area made by the closing date.
All the Christchurch schools are well staffed and equipped, and offer courses suitable for pupils at all levels of ability, he said.
All State schools will send out acceptance and rejection notices about July 20. It is hoped this year that for pupils who receive rejection notices from the school of their first choice, a firm offer of an alternative school can be made.
With the opening of a new school in Kaiapoi in 1972, there will be some changes in the transport arrangements for children in Kaiapoi, Belfast, and. the surrounding areas. The Kaiapoi High School will accept only third form pupils in 1972, and transport assistance for children in the areas just mentioned will be towards Kaiapoi for third-formers, but for fourth-formers and above will continue towards other secondary schools as in the past This latter transport will be phased out as the Kaiapoi High School develops. Applications for Kaiapoi should be sent to the Christchurch Secondary Schools’ Council office.
