Of the 165 applications so far received under the price justification scheme, 92 had been approved in full and another 27 in part, the Price Tribunal announced today. The commodities for which approval to increase prices has been given since last week’s announcement include school stationery, one brand of container board, two brands of wire fencing, two brands of confectionery and one brand of detergent. Prices were also approved for two new lines of paint and a new washing machine.

Of the remaining applications, more information has been sought on 36, seven are under initial examination, and in three cases applications have been withdrawn or lapsed. Payroll tax was included as a reason for 68 of the applications approved.
