Second 748 soon
Mount Cook Airlines expects its second turbo-prop Hawker Siddeley 748 to reach Christchurch about July 15 and to be in service promptly. The company’s operations manager (Mr M. L. Comer) said yesterday that the new sl.lm aircraft would be accepted by the airline in Manchester on June 30. Captain G. B. Williams, Mr Comer and Captain A. J. McLeod (the chief pilot) Will bring the plane to New Zealand via the Middle East and Singapore—the same route taken by the company’s first 748.
With two 748 s a greater frequency will be provided on the service between
Christchurch, Mount Cook and Queenstown: this summer three flights a day will be made. There will be one 748 flight between Rotorua, Mount Cook, Queenstown and Te Anau. Mr Comer said that the company expected the two 748 s to cope with the traffic growth for the next two to three years. The airline’s two DC3s will be taken out of service later this. year.
