ROWING TOUR
Major races in Europe (N.Z. l-reu Auoeiation) WELLINGTON. The New Zealand rowing team will compete in three major regattas before going to Copenhagen for the European championships from August 18 to 22. The itinerary for the team, which will include an eightman crew and a coxed four, has been approved by the national rowing council. The team will leave Auckland on July 4, and before the European titles will race at Rotsee-Luceme, Switzerland, on July 10-11, and Duisberg, West Germany, on July 25. It will arrive back in New Zealand on August 26. Arrangements have been made to buy boats in Italy before the tour begins. A member of the team, D. R. Wilson (Waikato), has withdrawn on medical advice, but the national selectors have not yet intimated whether a replacement will be named.
The council has approved the holding of “small finals” at next year’s national championships at Wanganui. It means there will be separate finals for crews which do • not qualify for the championship final in their event.
