Girls’ golf final
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The 20-year-old, Miss P. Dudding (Bay of PlentyThames Valley) yesterday won the national girls’ golf championship, beating Miss D. Low (Nelson), 2 and 1, in the final at Carterton. Miss Dudding, who had earlier caused a surprise by beating last year’s holder, Miss M. Smith (Wellington), 3 and 2, in the morning’s semi-finals, played confidently throughout. She won the first, third and fifth holes and was 3 up after the seventh. However, Miss Low recovered splendidly and was actually one up at the fifteenth. But Miss Dudding then won the next three holes.
Miss Low had also caused an upset in the morning by beating the New Zealand representative at the world junior girls’ championships in the United States, Miss S. Beadle (Wanganui), 3 and 1.
