Four concerts by Peter Cooper
A Sunday afternoon recital In aid of the Save the Children Fund will be among four concerts to be given by Peter
Cooper, the New Zeelandborn pianist, in a festival of favourite piano music in the Civic Theatre next week. Mr Cooper will give two lunch-time sessions on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday,, and on the afternoon of Sunday, May 23, will present a recital of Viennese piano music. Now on a five months' tour of the country, Mr Cooper has become widely known internationally with his concert appearances, and as a recording. broadcasting and television artist. After his early studies In New Zealand—interrupted by four years war service with the Australian Imperial Forces—he gained a scholarship in 1946 to the Royal Academy of Music. London. There he was awarded the Eric Brough Memorial Prize for pianoforte playing. He was associated in his studies with two other great pianists, Ignaz Friedman and Edwin Fischer.
Mr Cooper has made manv successful appearances throughout Britain, Europe, the United States, India, Africa, and the West Indies, as well as in Australia and his country of birth.
