Rugby not to sponsor trek A request from a Mr H. A. McGregor that the Canterbury Rugby Union sponsor a trek to aid the 1974 Commonwealth Games was refused by the management committee last evening. "I’m certain that the union will be doing something on a major scale for the Games in the future,” Mr R. Storey said. A request from the Chatham Islands, which is one of the C.R.F.U.’s sub-unions, for footballs, was passed on to the equipment committee. A letter from the Rugby supporters’ club saifi that it proposed to donate a football to each new school which opened in Christchurch. It hoped that Canterbury players would be able to make the presentations.
