Car dispute not settled

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Representatives of the unions involved in the “selective stoppages" at Hutt Valley motor assembly plants met the Minister of Labour (Mr Marshall) for more than two hours today, but failed to reach any major agree-

Mr Marshall said after the meeting, however, that he had told the unions he would advise the employers that they should be prepared to negotiate a new agreement having regard to the guidelines set out in the Stabilisation of Remuneration Act, but that before any negotiations took place there should be a return to normal work.

The secretary of the Wellington Drivers’ Union (Mr K. Douglas) said after the meeting that there had been “no real progress about the dispute."
