STANDARD CONTRACT
The North Canterbury provincial executive of Federated Farmers will be asked to prepare a standard contract for grower and buyer to “overcome problems before they arise” in private negotiations for stock feed grain. The dairy section decided on this course yesterday after Mr V. A. Rivers (Ellesmere) said there was an increasing prevalence for such negotiations among grain growers and pig farmers, usually between neighbours. This seemed to have worked very well so far, but a standard agreement signed by contracting parties would eliminate argument should any problem arise. "If I had 10 acres of standing timber, do I go along to Federated Farmers to get a standard agreement for signing with the sawmilier?” asked Mr J. H. Findlay (Sheffield).
Mr A. F. Wright, provincial senior vice-president, said the suggested standard agreement was a sound and reasonable one. The “middle man” already was being cut out, and the contract would settle any differences.
