Only habitat
The small basin at Castle Hill was the only known habitat in the world of Ranunculus paucifolius, a plant of very ancient origin, said Mr L. J, Metcalf, assistant director of the Christchruch Botanic Gardens, giving evidence in the Castle Hill resort scheme town planning hearing yesterday. The plant owed its existence to a fenced reserve and to peculiar ecological conditions that could easily be upset by new conditions that could change the delicate balance.
