NARROW WIN
Arsenal has clear lead
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON.
Arsenal strengthened its chance of winning the English League soccer championship with a 1-0 win over Burnley yesterday, but it had to struggle to beat a relega-tion-doomed opponent. The hard-won victory moved Arsenal two points ahead of Leeds United in the championship race, and it has a match in hand. A fortnight ago, Leeds held a six-point lead over the London club.
A goal by C. George from a penalty in the twentyseventh minute, after E. Probert had handled on the line, proved decisive. Results of other English League matches were: Division two.—Charlton 0, Queen’s Park Rangers 3. Division three.—Shrewsbury 1, Torquay 0. Division four.—Grimsby 3, Colchester 1; Newport 2, Lincoln 2.
