Purdie has good trial
“The Press” Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH.
Purdie and Lovely Honey ran excellent trials at Awapuni yesterday morning in preparation for Saturday’s Hawke’s Bay meeting at Hastings. Silver Knight, which will clash with Purdie in the Hawke’s Bay Cup, also galloped well over a mile with Aristoc.
Working off the plough, Purdie was given a brisk run over seven furlongs. He did well to record 1:30, the last three in 39. He was given an easy time after his Wairarapa success and his trainer, E. Temperton, was keen to give him a solid workout. Silver Knight and Aristoc ran a mile and kept together all the way to record 1.45, the last seven in 1.32 and the final three in 39 4-5. Silver Knight seems to have taken no harm from his successful northern tripLovely Honey excelled over half a mile when she easily beat Midland Boy in 50 1-5, the last three in 37 3-5. Lovely Honey raced
below her best at Ellerslie, but could be dangerous in the Nursery Handicap on Saturday. Candelle, which contests
the West Derby Handicap at Blenheim on Saturday, took time honours for half a mile in 49sec. Bounty, which looks in good order for the Nursery Handicap at Hastings, ran the last half mile of his work in 53, the final three in 39 2-5. The Marlborough candidate Beach ran half a mile in 51 2-5, the last three in 38 1-5. This looked an excellent trial for the West Derby Handicap.
