N.Z. MARKET REMAINS FIRM IN MIXED TRADING

, The New Zealand market leaders were evenly divided between the rises and falls columns after a day of moderately active trading yesterday. However the tone of the market was quite firm, and rises more than offset falls as was shown by a gain in the index.

Selective buying gave the market its mixed appearance; C.S.I. gained 5c to 135 c, but Broadlands was a marginal 1c lower at 89c, N.Z, Breweries put oil 1c to 109 c, while Ballins came back 2c for 118 c. Winstone gained 1c to 109 c, but Fletcher Holdings lost 2c to 168 c. 1 A. B. Cables was very firm at 200 c after a rise of 15c, and N.Z. Insurance at 350 c, and South British Insurance at 360 c were both firmer. N.Z. Refining put On 10c to 390 c in Auckland after the annual meeting was told of company's plans to expand the refinery. Among the falls Alex Harvey, Midland, and Forests were 3c lower.

F.A.C. slumped 13c to 280 c and N.Z. News lost 9c to 274 c.
